Comedian Carrot Top hospitalized in Las Vegas, receiving ‘care and support he needs’

LAS VEGAS —

Scott Thompson, the comedian better known as Carrot Top, has been hospitalized in Las Vegas, according to numerous reports, and is receiving the “care and support he needs.”

Thompson reportedly attempted suicide Friday night ahead of a show at the Luxor and was rushed to an area hospital, according to multiple media reports.

His condition is unknown.

Thompson’s representative did not share a reason for the comedian’s hospitalization, but shared a statement which reads, “”Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs. His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.”

Thompson, 61, became known for his bright red hair, self-deprecating humor and highly visual “prop comedy,” incorporating objects into jokes about pop culture and everyday life.

A fixture of the comedy scene since the late 1980s, his national profile grew through television appearances, including “The Tonight Show,” as well as roles in films such as “Chairman of the Board.”

He has also made guest appearances on numerous television programs and comedy specials.

Since 2005, he has been a major Las Vegas headliner.
