NCIS: Origins is giving fans exactly what they want this season with a reunion between Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly.

Weatherly’s Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo might be the new deputy director on NCIS, but Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs will always be his “boss” — and viewers will see them back together on the Tuesday, October 20, episode of the CBS prequel series.

It marks the first time in 10 years that the two actors will share the screen, reprising their respective roles.

During the upcoming episode of NCIS: Origins, Gibbs will make his way back to the agency’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. to “enlist the help of new director Tony DiNozzo after Gibbs was shot by unknown assailants” during the Origins season premiere earlier this month.

Mark Harmon‘s highly-anticipated return for the NCIS: Origins crossover episode came as a surprise for some viewers following his shocking exit. During the Tuesday, November 11, double feature, Harmon, 74, reprised his role as Gibbs in the opening scene of the prequel, where a present-day version of the character reflected on his life while in […]

Harmon played Gibbs on the flagship series from 2003 to 2021, exiting during season 19. He served as Tony’s boss for 13 of those seasons.

Weatherly, for his part, exited NCIS after season 13 in 2016. He later reprised his role on the short-lived spinoff NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which ended after one season in 2025.

Weatherly returned to NCIS during the season 24 premiere on October 6. After helping his longtime friend and “probie” Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) solve a case involving McGee’s long-lost son, Tony was named the new deputy director, a role he will maintain for the rest of the season — at the very least.

Harmon, meanwhile, has been an executive producer for NCIS: Origins since it premiered in 2024. The prequel series follows a younger version of Gibbs during the ‘90s in California while working at Camp Pendleton.

Mark Harmon is not the person to ask about whether Gibbs will return to NCIS — because he just doesn’t know. The actor, 72, appeared on a panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Saturday, July 13, to discuss narrating as present-day Leroy Jethro Gibbs on CBS‘ upcoming NCIS: Origins prequel series, […]

This season, Harmon has stepped back in front of the camera in a bigger role as modern-day Gibbs.

His season 3 story line kicked off with two men shooting him outside his Alaskan cabin, and although they left him for dead, Gibbs used a party trick he learned in the Marines to stop his breathing. The end of the episode revealed he is alive — and on the hunt for his would-be assassins.

NCIS: Origins also stars Austin Stowell as the young Gibbs, Kyle Schmid, Mariel Molino, Tyla Abercrumbie, Diany Rodriguez and Caleb Foote. Harmon serves as the narrator.

To catch Harmon and Weatherly back in action, tune in to NCIS: Origins on CBS Tuesday, October 20, at 10 p.m. ET or stream the next day on Paramount+
