The Mohammed Bin Zayed Sat satellite has captured an image of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai, home to the world’s largest single-site concentrated solar power project.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) shared the image on X.
Orbiting at an altitude of 550 kilometers, the satellite is named after His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. It performs a range of vital functions, including environmental monitoring and infrastructure management, while helping develop Emirati expertise and strengthen the UAE’s global position in space technology. It also supports various sectors, enhances quality of life, fosters a sustainable national space ecosystem, and assists humanitarian efforts during disasters. By providing current, reliable data, the satellite enables local and international organizations to make accurate, informed decisions.
Mohammed Bin Zayed Sat, the region’s most advanced satellite, was developed entirely in the UAE by Emirati talent. It launched on January 14, 2025, from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Following the launch, the mission team began operating and managing the satellite from the mission control center in Dubai’s Al Khawaneej area.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park currently has a production capacity of 4,660 megawatts, which is expected to exceed 8,000 megawatts by 2030. Covering 77 square kilometers in Seih Al-Dahal, approximately 50 kilometers south of Dubai, the park supports the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050. These initiatives advance the goal of deriving 100% of Dubai’s energy production capacity from clean sources by 2050.
DEWA implements the park’s projects in partnership with the private sector under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. This pioneering approach brings together government vision, technological innovation, and investment efficiency.
