Reverend Gary Lynn Martin, 83, of Morgantown, West Virginia, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on September 13, 1942, in Clarksburg, Gary was the son of the late Viola Ruth Martin Watson.
Gary is survived by his wife, Carol; his son, Bruce Martin and his wife, Tina, of Morgantown; his grandson, Michael Martin and his wife, Samantha, of Morgantown; and his great-grandchildren, Lenny Martin and Emme Martin, who brought him immeasurable joy.
A graduate of Lumberport High School, Gary faithfully served both his community and his Lord throughout his life. He dedicated 26 years of service to C&P Telephone Company while also answering God’s call to ministry. For 40 years, he faithfully pastored several congregations, including Barnes Memorial Baptist Church, Lumberport Baptist Church, and Pruntytown Baptist Church, sharing the love of Christ with countless lives. His journey of faith began at just 16 years old when he first started preaching the Gospel—a calling that remained the cornerstone of his life. When he wasn’t ministering, Gary found joy in woodworking, traveling with Carol to discover new restaurants, and lifting his voice in song as a member of a gospel quartet. He appreciated craftsmanship, fellowship, and the simple blessings of spending time with those he loved.
Gary’s greatest passion was serving the Lord and caring for others. He lived his faith daily, always ready to offer encouragement, prayer, and a helping hand to anyone in need. His kindness, compassion, and servant’s heart left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Family and friends were received at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive, Clarksburg, WV 26301, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 pm with Minister Edward Hardman officiating.
