TOKYO –
Miresso, a Japanese startup backed by trading house Mitsui & Co., has announced the start of construction of a facility to produce beryllium, a rare metal essential for nuclear fusion power generation, with plans to manufacture 100 tons annually, equivalent to about one-third of current global production.

Worldwide beryllium production stands at approximately 300 tons a year, making the company’s planned output a significant addition to global supply.

Miresso aims to establish large-scale production to meet demand from the emerging nuclear fusion power industry, which is developing technology to generate electricity through the fusion of atomic nuclei.

If the company achieves its annual production target of 100 tons, it expects revenue to reach several tens of billions of yen.
