In Arkansas’ District 2, votes are still being counted

The Chris Jones for Congress campaign sent word Wednesday that votes are still being counted in what’s become the closest race of incumbent Republican French Hill’s career.

Hill had a thin lead by midnight. Still, 4,000 votes is not nothing! That margin would be tough to close. The official numbers haven’t budged that we can tell today.

Here’s an explainer on the holdup from the Jones campaign, which doesn’t appear to be ready to throw in the towel:

Jones for Congress Campaign Statement as Ballots Are Counted in Arkansas’s 2nd Congressional District

LITTLE ROCK, AR – The Chris Jones for Congress campaign released the following statement as ballots continue to be counted and the race for Arkansas’s 2nd Congressional District remains too close to call.

“Arkansans turned out in this election, and there are still ballots to count,” said Kimberly Eddings, campaign manager for Chris Jones for Congress. “Our team has followed the election process closely from the start. Every Arkansan who voted deserves to have their voice heard, and every legal vote deserves to be counted.”

Chris Jones added: “Across Arkansas, voters elected at least 10 new Democrats to the state House, taking Democrats from 20 seats to 30 and ending a Republican supermajority that lasted ten years. I’m grateful to every volunteer and voter who was part of this campaign, and however this count turns out, families in this district deserve lower costs, health care close to home, and a congressman who answers to them.”

The campaign encourages voters who cast provisional ballots to follow up with their county election office so their votes are counted.
