French gas prices to rise again in November

french gas prices to rise again in november

The reference price of gas in France will rise by 6.6 percent on November 1st, the third consecutive increase this autumn.

The increase was announced by France’s Energy Regulation Commission (CRE), which said it was due to rising gas prices on the wholesale market in September.

The CRE estimates that households whose gas contracts are linked to the reference price will pay an average of €12 more in November than in October, including tax.

The reference price, known as the prix repère de vente de gaz, helps energy suppliers set their tariffs and allows consumers to compare offers. It will rise to an average of €194.90 per megawatt-hour, including tax.

Households with fixed-price contracts are not affected by the increase. These accounted for around 40 percent of residential gas customers at the end of 2025.

The latest rise follows increases of 6.3 percent in October and 5.6 percent in September.

According to the CRE, the average household gas bill in 2026 is expected to be around €135 higher than in 2025. For households that use gas for heating, estimated annual bills have risen by €600 since April, assuming the same level of consumption.
