Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday urged Brics members to bring cooperation to “new heights” in areas such as artificial intelligence.
Speaking at the bloc’s summit in New Delhi, he proposed an initiative on “AI-empowered new industrialisation” designed to deepen collaboration on industrial and supply chains.
He also said Beijing was willing to work with Brics countries to play a “due role” in bringing peace to the Middle East, calling for the group of emerging economies to oppose bloc confrontation and the “infringement upon the sovereignty of other countries and interference in their affairs”.
He said the war in the Middle East had caused serious losses to people across the region and did not serve the common interests of the international community, according to state news agency Xinhua.
The Chinese leader hailed the “historic” expansion of Brics as it marked its 20th anniversary, saying it had become the most influential cooperation platform for emerging markets and developing countries and a model of “joint self-reliance”.
Xi invited all Brics countries to join the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation, a Chinese-led initiative designed to shape global AI governance and development.
Regarding the AI industrialisation initiative, he said: “China stands ready to work with all parties to jointly produce more research and development and application outcomes, and to deepen cooperation across industrial and supply chains.”
