A Colorado judge on Friday issued a blanket ruling granting another year to all Class of 2022 athletes whose eligibility expired this past spring, a direct shot at the NCAA’s new “5 to play 5” rule.
The new “age-based eligibility” rule is set to take effect this fall, granting any current athletes five years to play five seasons, rather than four under the old rule. However, the new NCAA policy did not include athletes who were classified as fourth-year seniors during the 2025-26 academic year.
