Wakefield Trinity became only the sixth, and most unlikely, club to win the Super League title after a deserved win over Warrington Wolves.

Only two years after being in the Championship and in their first ever Grand Final, Wakefield took to the Old Trafford stage like the manor born.

Daryl Powell’s side did the bulk of the damage in a devastating first half as they raced into a 19-0 lead on their way to becoming champions of England for the first time since 1968.

Trinity carried on from where they had left off in the semi-final against Wigan Warriors with tries from Cameron Scott, Isaiah Vagana and Jazz Tevaga and a drop goal from Jack Sinfield.

Arron Lindop’s try gave Warrington brief hope early in the second half, but when Tom Johnstone went over at the other end, the game was up despite Lindop’s second try late on.
