David Welton Reed, 76, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility.
Born on January 9, 1950, in Clarksburg, David was the son of the late James F. Reed and Doris Whisner Reed.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lena and David Whisner and Leona and Rhonda Clarkson Reed.
David owned and operated the Hobby Stop in Bridgeport. True to that name David had many hobbies.
As a teen he earned his Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and was an adult Scout Leader and enjoyed camping at Camp Mahonegan.
David’s antique Corvair won many trophies in car shows and his hobbies also included building model trains and model cars. His model train layout is displayed at the Clarksburg Model Railroad Club.
David enjoyed Civil War history and was a member of the local Civil War Roundtable. He searched and found many Civil War artifacts. He would obtain permission from land owners in the Elkins area and with his metal detector found bullets, a canteen, musket balls and uniform buttons. A portion of his collection is on display at the Rich Mountain Museum.
David’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Clarksburg Veterans Care Facility and Amedisys Hospice for the wonderful care David received.
David was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving for 3 years aboard the USS Kilauea.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive, Clarksburg, WV 26301, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 10:30 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:30 PM with Reverend Jim Lang Officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the United States Navy and the Harrison County Honor Guard in recognition of David’s faithful service to his country.
